As Adam strolls on the face of the earth, he is overwhelmed
at what he sees. Everything is so beautiful and he can’t imagine being anywhere
else but here. He had been lonely for a while but God has given him this great
looking girl that he can’t seem to let go off. He pulls her closer by the waist
and with a smile and raised eyebrows he whispers “You are mine”, Eve smiles and
replies “I love you too, stranger”.
Adam runs off into the bushes with a ‘yahoo!’ leaving Eve eyes
stuck to a bloom of juicy ready to pluck fruits. They look good though they can’t
eat them. They have everything else but these are the best looking fruits in
all Eden but they can’t have them and that’s by God’s command. He sometimes
wonders about it but that’s that, it’s out of bounds.
Fifteen minutes later he comes back to the spot wondering
what’s taking Eve too long and finds her coiled under the tree, eyes closed quietly
enjoying one of the forbidden fruits. Her face is all lighted up and expressive
of total happiness. She hasn’t heard him
yet and with a swallow of saliva Adam grunts with feigned disgust.
“What have you done, Eve?!”
Startled but managing a smile she struggles to get her
footing at the same time fumbling words over a mouthful of pulp.
“But, but they are so yummy, I couldn’t resist them” she
says as she inches the half eaten fruit towards Adam’s now half open mouth.
“Try it; it’s just like the serpent said. It’s a mouthful of
heaven” she urges.
He digs dip and as the juices run down his lips he grabs Eve
and now filled with guilt he grumbles,
“Let’s get out of here!”
In heaven using His thumb and forefinger God rips open the
heavens and everyone peeps to see the darts of rot that has entered the world. Some
angels can’t stomach it and they leave hurriedly weeping and sobbing. Everyone is wondering who will make this
right. Michael is there and though he is a mighty warrior, he knows this is not
a physical fight and therefore can do nothing. Gabriel is there but he too knows
that this is not his fight. Christ looks down and with love He knows that it is
his time to serve and He would do it even if it means His life.
The Father and Son as if on cue look at each other and nod
and Jesus says “I’ll go”. The Father looks at Him and says “I love you and you
have my blessings”.
The mood is sombre and there’s no celebration. It’s all
quiet and you hear a pin drop eons of universes away. Jesus leaves to shed his
heavenly garments and to starts His decent into the world of man.
Though a king, He now has to take the place of a servant and
He appears in our world born from a humble family that was at the bottom of the
pyramid in the civilization of that day. Mary is as young teenager without
experience and Joseph a builder who is a having a son that is not really his.
As Jesus grows up he pleases His Father in Heaven by the way
He carries himself under His Fathers laws for man after the fall, but at thirty
Jesus decides it is time to finish what He had come to do. He heads to the
river where His cousin John is baptizing men in preparation for the new order.
Slowly he steps into the chilly waters blinded from John’s view by the many men
who are willingly accepting John’s call.
As soon as John sees Him he exclaims “I can’t do this Jesus,
it should be the other way round” to which Jesus replies and says “This is the
way it’s meant to be, otherwise it won’t work.”
Everyone in heaven is gathered up to see and you can feel
the aura of excitement on everyone as John dips Jesus’ head under the Jordan
waters and as he raises, immediately His
Father in heaven tears the heavens a second time with His voice and says
“This is my son, in whom I love”
All heaven knows that it has officially started; the
greatest descent, much further than the first. Angels hurriedly scamper as
mixed feelings start to nag them. They are in a happy sad moment because they
know that it is for good but are worried because of the suffering of physical body
of Christ.
Three years later, Jesus is slowly dragging a wooden cross
on the streets of Jerusalem. The streets are filled with jeers and cheers and
everyone wants a peek at the man who is now condemned to die outside the city
walls.
The pain is excruciating for they have whipped him, scratched
him, slapped him and now the near mid-day sun is making the wounds ache with
every dripping salty sweat. He dredges on and half an hour later they are at Calvary.
As the nails tear His flesh, his body jerks and tightens and
his eyes roll and appear white. He bites his lips and more blood drips. All
that had been done for pleasure now has to be undone by pain. As they prop Him
and spit on Him, He looks up and cries
“My God, my God, why
have you forsaken me?!”
No one moves; all eyes are on the Father and with
expectation. They don’t know what He will do now, but He doesn’t budge and
watches as His only son’s life ebbs away. Heaven’s tear and the earth trembles and
as Christ dies an invisible hand rips from top to bottom the veil in the Holy
Temple in Jerusalem.
The old order is gone.
For three days no one say’s anything until someone says that
Christ is alive. You can again hear the hushed voices of angels as those closer
to the Father report of a new thing on earth. He had risen! They see him
visiting his disciples and appearing to many in Jerusalem.
Forty days later the expectation is above imagination as
Christ rises from earth and enters heaven into jubilation and a crowning
ceremony.
He had done it!
The party is
so big, the relief even bigger. Father and Son look at each other and with a
High Five; they sit and watch as the rest of humanity is delivered.
Years later at His second coming everyone who believed in Him will see Him in
His kingly status for He became small so as to make us big as He is.
